Sartoris Flintlock Breechloading Rifle - Concerted to Pecussion

Calibre:

·596" (22 B)
Barrel length:
Serial no.: AFB41
Date:

The breechloading system of this arm was invented by Urbanus Sartoris and is described in patents numbers 4,107 of 1817 and 4,336 of 1819. A tip-up breech chamber is made with interrupted screw threads at the rear of the barrel. The barrel operating handle folds down when the action is closed for firing. To open the breech, the handle on the barrel is lifted and turned to the left, thus disconnecting the breech locking threads. The barrel is then pushed forwards, permitting the breech chamber to be lifted up for loading. This half-stocked sporting rifle was first made as a flintlock but has a drum and nipple conversion to percussion ignition.
